Neck Lift Richmond
Neck Lift, cervicoplasty or submental plication is a wonderful little procedure that can remove a troublesome fat pad from under the neck while tightening up the muscle. This procedure takes approximately one hour in the operating room. There is a small well-concealed incision made just under the chin. Through this incision, fat from under the chin can be removed, and then the “platysma” neck-muscle is tightened at the midline. No excess skin is removed, hence the ideal person for a neck lift, is someone with a fat pad under the chin and no loose skin, otherwise a facelift is recommended because a facelift removes both excess fat and skin.
Surgery is an outpatient procedure and the patient goes home within a few hours. There is a large cotton dressing and sometimes a drain. The day after surgery the initial dressing is removed and the drain is commonly removed at the same time. Then the patient begins to wear an elasticized garment for support. After 3 to 4 days the patient wears the garment only in the evenings and through the night for a total of 30 days. Many patients return to work in 4 to 5 days. Neck bruising is easily concealed with a collared shirt or turtleneck. Patient satisfaction is extremely high.
